App Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 8, 2026

This policy explains how Groth Galleries ("we", "us") handles information in our mobile applications. It applies to the apps listed below and is separate from the privacy policy for our website. Each app section describes only the data and device permissions that that app actually uses.

Our approach

  • Local-first. Unless an app's section says otherwise, the data you create stays on your device. We don't operate accounts, and we don't upload your content to our servers.
  • No selling, no ads, no tracking. We do not sell or rent your information, we don't show advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
  • Permissions are opt-in. The operating system asks for your consent before an app uses a sensitive permission (photos, location, etc.), and you can change or revoke it any time in your device Settings.

Nightlog

Nightlog is an astrophotography planning and logging app. All of your trips, shoots, locations, gear, notes, and images are stored on your device. There are no accounts and we receive none of this data.

Permissions and data used

Permission / dataWhy it's usedLeaves your device?
Photo library (read) To let you attach planning screenshots and result photos to a shoot. Selected images (and their thumbnails and EXIF metadata) are stored within the app on your device. No.
Location — while using the app To sort your saved locations by distance and to prefill coordinates when you create a new location or shoot. Not stored or shared by us. Used on-device only (see network lookups below for the one exception).
Coordinates sent for lookups When you request an elevation or light-pollution (Bortle) value for a saved location, that location's latitude/longitude is sent to a third-party lookup service to return the value. Yes — coordinates only, with no identifier or account. See "Third-party services".
Map display To show your saved locations on a map, the app requests map tiles from the platform map provider (Apple Maps on iOS, Google Maps on Android). Yes — the map provider receives the map area and your device's IP per their own policies.

Nightlog does not use accounts, analytics, advertising, the microphone, or the camera, and does not transmit your photos or notes off the device.

Sudoku Ignite

Sudoku Ignite is an offline number-puzzle game — classic and jigsaw sudoku, a daily challenge, and personal statistics. Your progress, settings, statistics, and daily streak are stored only on your device.

Permissions and data used

Permission / data Why it's used Leaves your device?
Vibration (haptics) Tactile feedback on taps, mistakes, and wins No
On-device storage Saves puzzle progress, settings, statistics, and your daily streak No

Sudoku Ignite has no account, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. It works entirely offline and transmits nothing over the network. It does not use your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos, or notifications, and it uses no third-party services.

Permission glossary

For reference, here is what each permission an app might request is generally used for. An app only requests the permissions listed in its section above.

Photo library
Choose existing images to import. With read access an app can display and copy images you select; with add access it can save images back to your library.
Camera
Capture a new photo or video from within the app.
Microphone
Record audio, e.g. voice notes or video sound.
Location (while using)
Determine your approximate or precise position while the app is open, e.g. to sort nearby items or tag a place.
Location (always / background)
Determine position even when the app isn't open. We only request this if an app's section explicitly says so.
Notifications
Send reminders or alerts you've asked for.
Contacts / Calendar
Read or add entries when a feature you trigger needs them.
Files / Storage
Read or write documents you choose, e.g. import/export.
Motion & fitness / Health
Read sensor or health data for a feature you enable.
Tracking identifier
We do not use cross-app tracking identifiers in any app.

Third-party services

Some features rely on outside services that receive limited data to function. We don't control their handling of it; their own policies apply:

  • Map providers — Apple Maps (iOS) and Google Maps (Android) for displaying maps. See Apple's and Google's privacy policies.
  • Elevation lookup — Open-Elevation (open-elevation.com), which receives coordinates to return an elevation value.
  • Light-pollution lookup — lightpollutionmap.info, which receives coordinates to return a sky-darkness (Bortle) value.

These services receive only what's needed for the request (typically coordinates and your IP address) and are not given any account or identity, because we don't have one for you.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, you control it. Deleting items in an app removes them (subject to any in-app Trash/restore window described in the app), and uninstalling the app deletes its data from your device. We hold no copy to delete on your behalf.

Security

Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption, sandboxing). Network requests described above use encrypted connections (HTTPS) where the service supports it.

Children's privacy

Our apps are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will address it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Because we don't collect or store your app data on our servers, you can exercise most of these directly on your device. For anything else, contact us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our apps change. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top, and significant changes may be noted in the app.
